The Full Moon in Pisces
There’s going to be a Full Moon in Pisces on 28th August 2026.
It reminded me of this painting by Howard Pyle from 1910.
And part of me completely melted.
I actually gasped ‘oh’ – The water. The Moon. The mermaid.
The man giving himself over to something more powerful.
Being embraced, merging. It all feels beautifully Piscean.
I thought: he’s surrendering to the ocean (to emotion).
When he stops trying to control everything, she rescues him, and they merge in love.
And then I started looking at it again, and thought….
Wait a minute… What IS happening here?
IS he being rescued? Or has she lured him to his end!?
Mermaids were known for that.
Hmm….
And that’s the thing… We don’t know. It could be interpreted either way.
And… That is also SO Piscean.
The duality of the fish.
Heaven and Hell.
Genius and Delusional.
It’s too easy to make surrender sound spiritual.
Just let go, and trust, and something wonderful will happen.
But it depends…
Sometimes the thing you’re surrendering to is actually pulling you under.
We can be deceived by our own delusion, drown in our own emotions.
This is why the Full Moon must not be considered in isolation.
During the full moon, the Sun and Moon sit directly opposite from each other.
They’re staring at each other, will they dance, will they fight?
The Sun in Virgo says “Fix it. Organise it. Hold it together at all costs”.
And the Moon in Pisces says: “No. Feel it. Have Faith and Trust. Surrender.”
Part of me wants to make Pisces the wise one, because arguably Pisces IS more fun, until it gets just a bit TOO chaotic…
Pisces understands something Virgo struggles with.
You can’t control everything.
Sometimes you have to stop trying to fix it, anticipate every possible outcome, or hold everything together so tightly.
Sometimes you just have to surrender.
But we need to remember… neither Pisces nor Virgo has the whole answer.
We can think of Virgo and Pisces as the healer’s axis — the sign of service and the sign of compassion, opposite each other, transformed by each other. As someone once said to me: serve or suffer. Pisces carries the energy of sacrifice — giving of itself, sometimes beyond what is wise. They each bring something to the table.
Pisces reminds Virgo: “You can’t control everything”
Virgo reminds Pisces: “That doesn’t mean you stop paying attention”
You can surrender your need to control the outcome without surrendering your discernment.
You can trust without abandoning your boundaries.
Maybe Virgo isn’t a control freak after all.
Sometimes water IS dangerous.
But sometimes it isn’t.
And there’s part of everyone, however small, who wants to dive in.
A part of us that wants to get carried away.
But perhaps the wisdom isn’t in choosing between surrender and control.
Perhaps it’s knowing what to surrender, when and who with.
Maybe there’s a time for surrender, and a time to keep your wits about you.
Maybe that’s what this Full Moon is illuminating.

So beautifully written- and evocative of the The Tao which teaches that light and dark are complementary phases of one whole, continually transforming into each other through natural cycles of expansion and contraction….. light and dark needed to grow and mature…
