Reiki with Clare at Temple Divine.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese word that can be translated as ‘life-force energy.’ Although this healing technique originated in Japan through its founder, Mikao Usui, it is now widely practiced across the world.
Reiki practitioners believe that life-force energy flows through and around us. When this energy is flowing well, we tend to feel physically, emotionally, and mentally balanced. When our energy becomes blocked or depleted, it may lead to discomfort or illness.
Reiki uses gentle touch and intention to guide energy to where it’s needed most in the body, supporting the body’s natural healing abilities.
Many people report a variety of benefits from Reiki, including:
- A deep sense of relaxation and peace
- Reduced stress or anxiety
- Relief from emotional tension
- Soothing of aches or discomfort in the body
Reiki is gentle and safe, with very few side effects. Occasionally, clients may experience temporary fatigue or emotional release following a session – this is a natural part of the healing process and usually passes within a few hours or days.
Reiki is not a substitute for medical or psychological care.
It can be a beautiful complement to conventional treatment, but it does not replace the advice, diagnosis, or care of a qualified medical professional.
What to Expect During Your Reiki Session
Your Reiki treatment is a time for deep rest and energetic balance. Here’s what to expect:
- Each session lasts approximately 30-60 minutes (plus consultation/check-in time)
- You’ll lie fully clothed on a Reiki table/bed
- Blankets and pillows will be available for comfort
- Soft music may accompany the session, or it may be in silence
- I will gently place my hands either lightly on or just above different areas of the body (if there are any places you do not wish to be touched, please let me know)
- You may feel warmth, coolness, tingling, or subtle waves of energy
- Many people report a deep sense of calm, and even fall asleep
If you prefer a completely hands-off session, that’s fine – please let me know.
What Reiki Is Not
- Reiki is not massage – there is no manipulation of muscles or tissues
- Reiki practitioners are not medical professionals – we do not diagnose, treat, or prescribe
- It is not a cure, but a supportive tool to help bring the body, mind, heart and soul back into balance
Multiple Sessions & Energy Integration
While one session can bring immediate calm, many clients choose to book a block of three sessions, especially when working through stress, life changes, or chronic issues. Energy tends to build and settle more deeply with consistent treatments, often leading to a stronger and longer-lasting impact.
Energy integration can continue for 24-48 hours after your session – some people feel energised, others more introspective or sleepy. Both responses are perfectly normal.

Preparing for Your Treatment & Aftercare
Reiki works best when you feel calm and supported – both before and after your session. Here are some suggestions:
Before your session:
- Wear comfortable clothing
- Drink plenty of water
- Do not drink any alcohol 24 hours before
- Try to avoid caffeine and nicotine for a few hours beforehand
After your session:
- Hydrate well – water helps to integrate the energetic shifts
- Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours
- Limit caffeine, nicotine, and spicy food, as you may feel more sensitive to these
- Try to rest or take it easy for the remainder of the day
- Avoid loud or overstimulating environments if possible
Booking & Cancellation Policy
- Reiki treatments last approximately 30-60 minutes (there will be time for a consultation before and a check-in afterwards)
- Please arrive on time to allow for a gentle start
- Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice may be charged in full (unless due to illness/emergency)
- Block bookings e.g. (block of three treatments) are available if you’d like to work more deeply over several sessions – feel free to ask for details
Taking time for a Reiki session is a powerful act of self-care. Whether this is your first session or you’re returning, I’m honoured to support you on your wellbeing journey.
